zines
From 2001 to 2005, Ellen Adams regularly wrote, published and distributed two print zines, first Gumshoe Monkey, then September Coming Soon.  She published ten issues under each title and was frequently featured in review publications such as Zine World and Xerography Debt.  While most of the content was prose or poetry, she included comics as well.

Her zines were nominated for an Utne Independent Press Award.

Although her zines were originally sold at such independent press shops as Baltimore’s Atomic Books, they are now out of print.  However, many issues of Gumshoe Monkey and September Coming Soon can be accessed through Salt Lake City Public Library’s zine collection as well as the Denver Zine Library.

In addition to her own zine publications, Ellen worked as a reviewer for several issues of Xerography Debt and she maintained a zine library at the Thacher School in Ojai, California for a number of years.
